Baroque House is excited to co-present a taste of the baroque with our internationally recognized homegrown musicians in their endeavor Suckerpunch.

They will be presenting an after-hours concert of music from the Renaissance and Baroque, featuring a programme that broaches the topics of humanity, mortality, and piety. Performed by Alison Wong (soprano), Placida Ho (violin / viola da gamba), Mervyn Lee (viola da gamba), Leslie Tan (viola da gamba), and Christopher Clarke (treble viol / theorbo).

Christopher Clarke:

Christopher Johann Clarke is a versatile musician with technical expertise across distinct fields. In addition to performing with Red Dot Baroque, he has appeared with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles. Beyond this, he was awarded the President’s Graduate Fellowship for his PhD in Artificial Intelligence. He is also a recipient of the Phillip Holt Award, recognizing his achievements in his field.

Leslie Tan:

Educated in the UK, USSR, and in the USA, Leslie's career has included a greater part of 30 years as a founding member of the T’ang Quartet. He is now continuo cellist of Red Dot Baroque. Leslie has dabbled in many forms of the Arts but his passion now lies in baroque music, bicycles; and social and humanitarian work.

Mervyn Lee:

Mervyn began his harpsichord studies at 15 with Douglas Amrine, and subsequently with Billy Kristanto and Arthur Haas. He has performed under eminent figures such as Masaaki Suzuki and participated in workshops in Delaware and Cluny with members of Ensemble Masques, working with artists such as Olivier Fortin, Skip Sempé, Stephane Fuget, and Alberto Busettini. A semifinalist in the 10th Jurow International Harpsichord Competition, Mervyn is also a founding member of Red Dot Baroque. He currently studies harpsichord with Arthur Haas, viola da gamba with Martha McGaughey and dabbles on the baroque guitar whenever he can.

Placida Ho:

A musician unconfined by genre and traditions, Placida Ho performs professionally on both the violin and viola. She has performed repertoire ranging from historically informed performance of orchestral and chamber music with the Red Dot Baroque, Orchestra of the 18th Century and fusion baroque with Holland Baroque to Stockhausen’s Licht with the Dutch National Opera. Inspired by her teacher Ryo Terakado, she plays the violin (her first love), the viola, the violone, and most recently, the viola da gamba. She enjoys teaching and learning from her violin and viola students both young and old.

Alison Wong:

Alison Wong enjoys a working relationship with local ensembles Chroma and Red Dot Baroque. A graduate of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Alison was a recipient of the Steven Baxter Memorial Scholarship, and as a soloist has appeared in works from J.S. Bach's St. John Passion to Chen Zhangyi's _Kampung Spirit_. Alison's background is in choral music, and she periodically dabbles in hosting and voiceover work.
